Met-Pro Systems provides thermal oxidizers of virtually every design. These thermal oxidizers, also called enclosed flares, afterburners, or incinerators, can includes heat recovery systems such as recuperative and regenerative thermal oxidizers. They can also include steam production through the use of waste heat boilers (WHB or HRSG). WHBs are a good fit for applications where the level of contamination in the fume or liquid stream is high enough to preclude the use of a heat exchanger. Thermal oxidizer flue gas can range from 1400°F to 2500°F prior to its discharge to the WHB. Economics generally dictate that at least 10,000 lb/hr steam production should be achieved to make the use of a WHB feasible. Steam produced in a thermal oxidizer/WHB can be added to a plant's steam header, be used directly for heat recovery, or to generate electricity. Met-Pro Systems can work with you to evaluate the economics of the various options.
WHBs are an excellent fit for halogenated applications as flue gas temperatures remain well above the acid dew point at all locations within the boiler. This virtually eliminates the potential for low temperature corrosion in the boiler's tube bundle. Also, removing heat from flue gas following oxidation of halogenated compounds results in a scrubber that is significantly smaller as the volumetric gas flow is dramatically reduced.
